Marvel's New Star Wars Series to Explore the New Republic Era

Author:Kristen Update:Mar 21,2025

Get ready, Star Wars fans! Marvel Comics is relaunching its flagship Star Wars series in May 2025, taking us on a thrilling adventure set after the epic Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War. Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa are at the forefront, working tirelessly to establish the New Republic and bring order to a galaxy still reeling from conflict.

Alex Segura, fresh off his acclaimed Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, takes the reins as writer for this new volume. The legendary Phil Noto (Star Wars: Poe Dameron) lends his artistic talents, bringing the iconic characters to life, with Noto and Leinil Yu providing captivating cover art for the first issue.

Segura and Noto’s Star Wars unfolds approximately two years after Return of the Jedi, following the final major showdown between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance. As the New Republic strives to solidify its power, Luke and his companions face unexpected challenges. Opportunistic pirates, cunning thieves, and other nefarious villains exploit the power vacuum, creating a thrilling backdrop for new conflicts.

“Now that we’ve concluded the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can propel ourselves into a new, uncharted era, introducing fresh galactic threats, foes, and mysteries for our beloved heroes to confront,” Segura explained to StarWars.com. “These stories will be action-packed, filled with the character moments Star Wars fans cherish, featuring unique twists on the galaxy and its landscape. We’ve designed them for easy access, ensuring anyone can jump in with any issue. We're incredibly excited!”

“Alex is an exceptional writer, crafting fantastic storylines and introducing new characters for this series. I’m thrilled to bring them to life on the page!” Noto shared. “It’s been exhilarating to depict the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era, as there are no existing film or TV versions to constrain me. I get to create new looks while referencing the actors from the 80s to capture the essence of this timeline.”

Star Wars #1 blasts off on May 7, 2025, perfectly timed for this year’s Star Wars Day celebrations.
