Marvel Rivals Season 1: A Glimpse of Wong and the Arrival of the Fantastic Four

The upcoming Season 1 of Marvel Rivals, titled "Eternal Night," is generating considerable excitement among players. Launching January 10th, this season introduces Dracula as the main antagonist, fueling speculation about the inclusion of other supernatural Marvel characters like Blade. Confirmed additions include the full Fantastic Four, with bonus skins for Mister Fantastic (as the Maker) and Invisible Woman (as Malice).

But the buzz extends beyond the confirmed roster. A recent trailer for the new Sanctum Sanctorum map revealed a subtle Easter egg: a painting of Wong, Doctor Strange's mystical ally. This discovery, highlighted by Reddit user fugo_hate on r/marvelrivals, has ignited speculation about Wong's potential addition as a playable character. His unique magical abilities could make him a compelling addition to the game's roster.

Wong's Growing Popularity and Gaming History

Wong's popularity has skyrocketed in recent years, largely due to Benedict Wong's memorable portrayal in the MCU. While he previously appeared as a non-playable character in games like Marvel: Ultimate Alliance (2006), he has since become playable in titles such as Marvel Contest of Champions, Marvel Snap, and LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2.

More Than Just an Easter Egg?

The Sanctum Sanctorum map itself is packed with references to the supernatural side of the Marvel universe, so the Wong painting could simply be a fun cameo. However, given the current hype and Wong's increasing prominence in the Marvel universe, the possibility of him joining the playable roster remains a tantalizing prospect for many players.

Season 1's launch this week brings not only the new Sanctum Sanctorum map but also two additional locations and the new Doom Match mode. The arrival of Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman as playable characters further adds to the excitement. The question remains: will Wong follow suit? Only time will tell.
