Marvel Rivals Donald Trump Mod Reportedly Banned

Nexus Mods Bans Donald Trump Marvel Rivals Mod Due to Sociopolitical Concerns

A Donald Trump character mod for the popular game, Marvel Rivals, has been removed from Nexus Mods, a leading modding platform. The removal cites violations of Nexus Mods' policies against mods involving sociopolitical issues.

Marvel Rivals, a hero shooter developed by NetEase Games, has gained millions of players since its recent release. Players frequently utilize mods to customize character models, ranging from alternate skins based on Marvel comics and films to even crossovers with other franchises like Fortnite.

A mod replacing Captain America's model with Donald Trump gained traction on social media, even sparking interest in finding a corresponding Joe Biden mod for multiplayer matches. However, both mods are now inaccessible on Nexus Mods, resulting in error messages.

Reason for Removal:

This action aligns with a 2020 Nexus Mods policy prohibiting mods related to US sociopolitical issues. This policy was implemented around the time of the contentious 2020 presidential election.

The ban has generated mixed reactions on social media. While many players found the mod inappropriate given Captain America's established character, others criticized Nexus Mods for its stance on political imagery in mods. It's worth noting that despite this policy, Trump-related mods persist on Nexus Mods for other games like Skyrim, Fallout 4, and XCOM 2.

NetEase Games, the developer of Marvel Rivals, has yet to comment on the use of character mods, including those depicting controversial figures, within the game. The company is currently focused on addressing various issues such as gameplay bugs and resolving wrongful account bans.
