Lionsgate has announced that John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the talented duo behind the successful film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, have been tapped to write the screenplay for the much-anticipated Monopoly movie. Based on Hasbro's iconic board game, this film project has been brought to life under the production of Margot Robbie's company, LuckyChap. Daley and Goldstein, who have also recently directed their original film Mayday, bring a wealth of experience to the project, having previously contributed as writers to high-profile movies like The Flash and Spider-Man: Homecoming.

The idea of a Monopoly movie has been floating around for years. As early as 2007, renowned director Ridley Scott showed interest in taking the helm. By 2011, Scott had enlisted writers Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski to pen the script, but that iteration of the film never made it to the finish line. Subsequent attempts in 2015 saw Lionsgate partnering with Hasbro, with Andrew Niccol writing the script, followed by reports in 2019 that actor Kevin Hart and director Tim Story would be involved. However, none of these efforts panned out.

The current push for a Monopoly film gained new momentum following Lionsgate's acquisition of eOne from Hasbro. With Daley and Goldstein now on board, fans are hopeful that this version of the film will successfully "pass Go" and bring the beloved board game to the big screen in an exciting new way.
