A Knight of Decay: Xbox Brings Avowed’s Plague to London

A towering statue of a decayed knight, his armor corroded and adorned with eerie, real-life mushrooms, has emerged in London, serving as a haunting reminder of the Dreamscourge infection ravaging the world of Avowed. This installation, crafted by Xbox, doubles as both an art piece and a stark warning, enveloping passersby in the grim atmosphere of the game. Nearby, posters promoting Avowed on Xbox Series X|S enhance the immersive experience, transforming an ordinary street into a gateway to the game's dark universe.

To offer a glimpse into the creation of this foreboding installation, Xbox has released an official video on YouTube, providing fans with an in-depth look at the making of this unique promotional event.

Meanwhile, Avowed has garnered significant acclaim from Steam users, with 81% of Deluxe Edition players recommending it before the launch of the Standard Edition today. This early praise sets a high bar for the game's reception.

Gaming industry veteran Jason Schreier shared his enthusiasm for Avowed, highlighting its world design, storytelling, and combat, but particularly praising its exploration:

"Avowed has me hooked. Obsidian’s storytelling and combat were expectedly strong, but it’s the world’s design that stands out. Every pathway leads somewhere, every rooftop is accessible, and there’s always a hidden detail waiting to be found. Even after 40 hours, I keep coming back."

Schreier also pointed out a notable divide between critics and players, drawing parallels to Fallout: New Vegas:

"Some of the reviews surprise me. It’s the same situation as Fallout: New Vegas—critics were split, but players turned it into a legend. Avowed could follow a similar trajectory."

While Fallout: New Vegas initially received an 83 on Metacritic, it eventually ascended to the status of an undisputed classic. Could Avowed be following in its footsteps toward RPG greatness?
