Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Won't Have Denuvo DRM

Warhorse Studios confirms that their upcoming medieval RPG, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2), will launch completely DRM-free. This follows online speculation and misinformation suggesting otherwise.

Reports of KCD2 including DRM, specifically Denuvo, have been circulating. However, Warhorse Studios PR head, Tobias Stolz-Zwilling, explicitly stated during a Twitch stream that the game will not utilize any DRM whatsoever. He addressed the confusion, clarifying that while internal discussions may have occurred, no decision was ever made to implement DRM. He appealed to fans to cease inquiries about Denuvo's inclusion. Stolz-Zwilling emphasized that any unconfirmed information circulating online is inaccurate.

Concerns regarding DRM, particularly Denuvo, often center on potential performance impacts and negative player experiences. Denuvo, while serving as anti-piracy software, has faced criticism for causing performance issues in some games. Denuvo's product manager, Andreas Ullmann, attributes the negative perception to misinformation and confirmation bias, calling the resulting backlash "toxic."

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is scheduled for release in February 2025 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Set in medieval Bohemia, the game follows Henry, a blacksmith's apprentice, as he confronts a devastating event in his village. Players who contributed at least $200 to the game's Kickstarter campaign will receive a free copy.
