Jon Bernthal's Punisher Will Return After Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 in a Guardians of the Galaxy-Style Marvel Special

Jon Bernthal's Punisher is slated for a comeback in a Marvel special, following the conclusion of Daredevil: Born Again Season 1. This standalone project, reminiscent of a Guardians of the Galaxy-style adventure, will see Bernthal collaborating with We Own This City director Reinaldo Marcus Green on the script.

Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel Television, described the special as "a shotgun blast of a story," while also highlighting its emotional depth, characteristic of Frank Castle's narratives.

The Punisher's one-shot special arrives as Marvel Television prepares the return of the Defenders on Disney+. This team of street-level heroes, featuring Daredevil (Matt Murdock), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones), previously appeared on Netflix before transitioning to Disney+ and becoming integrated into the MCU canon.

Winderbaum previously expressed enthusiasm for exploring the potential of the Defenders, acknowledging the creative challenges of working within the constraints of television production compared to the limitless possibilities of comic books.

Daredevil: Born Again, premiering March 4th, continues the Daredevil saga from Netflix, bringing back familiar faces including the Punisher and Wilson Fisk (Kingpin), played by Vincent D'Onofrio. This season's antagonist is revealed as the artistically driven serial killer, Muse.
