A recent leak suggests Honkai: Star Rail Version 3.1 will include a free 4-star character selector, potentially as part of a limited-time event. This selector would allow players to choose one of four characters: Qingque, Pela, Serval, or Asta.

This news comes as Honkai: Star Rail's 3.0 update approaches, introducing new gameplay elements and characters. While the game boasts 23 4-star characters, many are outclassed by newer units in the meta. However, certain 4-stars remain valuable, especially with higher Eidolon levels. Past updates, such as Versions 2.1 and 2.7, offered similar free selectors, aiding players in strengthening their 4-star rosters.

The leak, originating from prominent leaker HomDGCat, specifies the four selectable characters: Qingque (Quantum, Erudition), Pela (Ice, Nihility), Serval (Lightning, Erudition), and Asta (Fire, Harmony). Interestingly, all are from the game's initial 1.0 cycle, and Asta is even an early-game acquisition. This selection fuels speculation that developer HoYoverse may be focusing on 5-star character releases, with rumors suggesting all upcoming characters will be 5-star.

The disparity between 4-star and 5-star characters is significant, with nearly 40 5-star units currently available compared to 23 4-star units. The upcoming Amphoreus update is expected to add eight more 5-star characters, and a potential Honkai: Star Rail/Fate/Stay Night crossover could add two more. The 2.0 cycle only introduced four new 4-star characters (including March 7th's alternate form). This trend, if continued, might limit the options for future 4-star character selectors.
