Hitman: World of Assassination Passes Astonishing Player Milestone

Hitman: World of Assassination Reaches 75 Million Players, a Monumental Milestone for IO Interactive

IO Interactive proudly announced that Hitman: World of Assassination has surpassed a remarkable 75 million players. This achievement encompasses players who accessed the game through various avenues, including the free Starter Pack and Xbox Game Pass (during its two-year availability). This likely makes it IO Interactive's most successful title to date.

It's important to note that World of Assassination isn't a single game, but a compilation of the three most recent Hitman titles. This strategic bundling, launched in January 2023 for PC and consoles, and later on Meta Quest 3 in September 2024, significantly boosted player numbers. While precise contribution breakdowns aren't available, Hitman 3 is suspected to have been a major contributor, given its strong sales performance in several key markets.

Xbox Game Pass and the Free Starter Pack: Key Drivers of Success

The game's two-year presence on Xbox Game Pass (until January 2024) played a crucial role in reaching this milestone. Equally significant was the free Starter Pack, available since the game's 2021 launch, and the free demos offered for the first two trilogy entries. These initiatives significantly broadened the game's reach.

Hitman Franchise on Hiatus, Focusing on New Projects

Despite its ongoing success, the Hitman franchise is currently on a temporary hiatus. While World of Assassination continues to receive regular, albeit smaller, content updates (Elusive Targets, etc.), IO Interactive's primary focus has shifted to two new projects: Project 007 (a James Bond game in development since 2020) and Project Fantasy (a new IP announced in 2023, exploring a fantastical setting).
