"Gran Saga Shutting Down Next Month"

Author:Kristen Update:Apr 02,2025

NPIXEL has officially announced the closure of Gran Saga, marking the end of its brief international journey. The game's services will cease on April 30th, 2025, and in-app purchases (IAPs) and new downloads have already been disabled.

Launched in Japan in 2021 to a warm reception, Gran Saga's global version only saw the light of day in November 2024. Unfortunately, the game managed to last just six months before the decision to shut down was made.

The closure appears to stem from financial instability and challenges in maintaining a sustainable service. Despite an impressive start, Gran Saga struggled to carve out a space in the fiercely competitive global market.

The genre is saturated with well-established titles that have loyal followings, making it tough for newcomers to break through without offering something truly innovative. While Gran Saga enjoyed early success in Japan, this momentum didn't translate globally, resulting in its premature closure.

ytThis development reflects a broader trend of gacha RPGs facing shutdowns. Just last month, I reported on the closure of My Hero Academia: The Strongest Hero, and it's not an isolated case. Several other games have also succumbed to the pressures of an oversaturated market, where players tend to stick with familiar titles, making it challenging for new or niche games to endure.

For those who made recent purchases and are seeking refunds, you have until May 30th to submit an inquiry. However, refunds may not be possible if the items have already been used or due to other store policies.

If you've spent time in Ethprozen, this farewell is undoubtedly tough, but it's becoming increasingly common in the mobile gaming landscape.
