MH Wilds Beta Test Extension Considered After Sudden PSN Outage

Monster Hunter Wilds is exploring a 24-hour extension for Open Beta Test 2 following a significant PlayStation Network outage. This article details the potential extension and the circumstances leading to its consideration.

24-Hour Playtime Interruption for PS5 Users

Due to the weekend's PlayStation Network service disruption, lasting a full 24 hours (beginning 6 PM EST on February 7th), Monster Hunter Wilds (MH Wilds) is evaluating a one-day extension to Open Beta Test 2. The outage rendered all online PlayStation console games inaccessible, including the MH Wilds beta. Service was restored around 8 PM EST, according to the official NA X (Twitter) support account.

While the exact timing of the potential extension remains unannounced, a 24-hour addition is being considered to compensate for lost playtime. This could occur anytime between the conclusion of Beta Test 2 Part 2 and February 27th, the day before the game's official launch. Part 1 of Beta Test 2 is complete, and Part 2 commences February 13th at 7 PM PT. Players can anticipate resuming gameplay, and perhaps encountering the amusing low-poly character bug.

The Return of the Hilarious Low-Poly Glitch

Capcom has acknowledged that the beta test build is outdated and doesn't reflect the final game. Consequently, bugs are present, including the infamous low-poly character glitch, where textures fail to load correctly, transforming characters, Palicos, and monsters into blocky, low-resolution versions.

Instead of frustration, this glitch has become a source of amusement, with fans sharing their encounters on social media. Some even hope the game will acknowledge this humorous quirk in the future. GamesRadar+ reports that the MH Wilds team is aware of the bug and appreciates the player response, but recommends experiencing the game with optimal specifications upon its release.

Monster Hunter Wilds, the latest in the acclaimed series, introduces an open-world setting—the Forbidden Lands. Players assume the role of a Hunter investigating this mysterious region and its apex predator, the White Wraith. The action-RPG launches on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on February 28th, 2025.

PlayStation Network's Significant Outage

PlayStation's NA X (Twitter) support account attributed the outage to an "operational issue" and apologized for the disruption. PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive five extra days of service as compensation.

However, the lack of communication during the outage drew criticism from fans, evoking concerns similar to the 2011 PSN outage, a major security breach affecting 77 million accounts. In contrast to the 2011 incident, Sony's communication during this recent outage was deemed insufficient.
