If you're a regular reader of Droid Gamers, you'll know we cover a wide range of tech gadgets, but a portable projector? That's something new—and exciting. Enter the Formovie Episode One, a compact device promising big-screen experiences without breaking the bank. While traditional projectors can be pricey, this model seems to deliver value, even with a few drawbacks.
Unboxing reveals a projector, remote (with batteries sold separately), power cord, and a slim instruction manual. At three pounds, it’s light enough to carry around yet feels sturdy enough for everyday use. However, it doesn’t quite match the premium build quality of higher-end models.
Port selection is minimal, featuring one USB-A port, one HDMI port, and an audio jack. Given its price point, this is understandable, and most users will find these options sufficient.
Performance-wise, the Episode One holds its own against competitors in its class. With 150 ISO lumens, it’s not the brightest projector out there, but it shines in darker environments. Bright sunlight proved challenging during our tests, but it handled indoor settings flawlessly. Movies, shows, and even streamed games looked crisp and clear.
To achieve the best picture quality, we found it necessary to position the projector at least 10 feet away from the screen. The built-in speaker offers passable sound but lacks depth, making an external speaker a worthwhile investment for a more immersive experience.
The user interface is refreshingly straightforward, offering a seamless setup process that rivals some of the pricier alternatives we've reviewed. Its budget-friendly design doesn’t sacrifice usability—it actually enhances it.
All things considered, the Formovie Episode One is an excellent entry-level projector. Though it doesn’t excel in any one area, it strikes a balance between affordability and functionality, making it ideal for casual users. Plus, as a bonus, purchasing one nets you a Netflix gift card worth $15/€15—valid until May 27th. Head over here to learn more!
