A recent report from video game market research firm Niko Partners reveals a potential mobile adaptation of Final Fantasy XIV, a joint venture between Square Enix and Tencent. The report details a list of games approved for release in China, including this unconfirmed mobile FFXIV title. Let's delve into the details of this exciting collaboration.

Square Enix and Tencent's Potential FFXIV Mobile Game

Still Largely Speculative

Niko Partners' report highlights 15 games approved by China's NPPA. Among them, a mobile version of Final Fantasy XIV, reportedly developed by Tencent, stands out. Other notable titles on the list include a mobile and PC version of Rainbow Six, and mobile games based on Marvel Snap, Marvel Rivals, and Dynasty Warriors 8.

While rumors of a Tencent-developed mobile FFXIV have circulated since last month, neither Square Enix nor Tencent has officially confirmed the project.

According to Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad's August 3rd X (formerly Twitter) post, the mobile FFXIV is anticipated to be a standalone MMORPG, distinct from the PC version. However, Ahmad emphasizes that this information stems primarily from industry speculation and lacks official confirmation.

Tencent's significant presence in the mobile gaming market makes this partnership with Square Enix a strategic move, aligning with Square Enix's stated May announcement of a multiplatform strategy for key franchises like Final Fantasy. This rumored collaboration suggests a broader push towards multiplatform releases for Square Enix's flagship titles.
