Final Fantasy IX Anniversary Merchandise Revealed

Square Enix has debuted a dedicated website celebrating Final Fantasy IX's 25th anniversary. The site mentions preparations for "various commemorative projects including merchandise and collaborations."

Available anniversary merchandise includes character figures, plush dolls, vinyl records, soundtrack CDs, and illustrated storybooks. The company promises additional announcements throughout the anniversary period.

Originally launched for PlayStation on July 7, 2000, Final Fantasy IX has sold over 8.9 million copies worldwide. The game saw subsequent releases including:

  • Switch/Xbox One/Windows 10 ports (2019)

Potential Remake and MIA Anime Adaptation

Final Fantasy IX Remake Speculation Intensifies

The anniversary launch has reignited rumors about a potential FFIX remake. Following FFVII Remake's success and FFIX's ranking as Japan's 4th favorite FF title (NHK poll, 2019), fans speculate Square Enix might announce similar treatment.

Another mysterious project is the long-awaited anime adaptation. Announced in 2021 as "Final Fantasy IX: The Black Mages' Legacy," this sequel series would have followed Vivi's descendants but has seen no updates since.

Original production partner Cyber Group Studios entered bankruptcy in October 2024, though potential buyers United Smile and Newen Studios have expressed interest in continuing the anime project.
