Development, initiated alongside FF7 Rebirth, is progressing smoothly, with a key build completed by the end of 2024. Kitase expressed confidence in the completed story, anticipating it will satisfy fans. The reuse of assets from the previous games and a completed story outline suggest a potentially sooner-than-expected launch.

Timed Exclusivity Expected

A March 6, 2024 Washington Post report suggests PlayStation secured timed exclusivity for the entire FF7 Remake trilogy. Following the pattern of previous releases, Part 3 is likely to launch exclusively on PS5 for a period before arriving on other platforms. FF7 Remake’s one-year exclusivity on PS4, Intergrade’s six-month PS5 exclusivity, and Rebirth’s January 23, 2025 PC release after its PS5 debut, all point towards a similar release strategy for Part 3.

Despite the positive reception of the FF7 Remake series, Square Enix’s March 31, 2024 financial report revealed declining sales in its HD titles. Citing increased development costs and advertising expenses, the company announced a shift towards a more aggressive multi-platform strategy.
