FCC Filing Hints at Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller Upgrade

Author:Kristen Update:May 27,2025

It's the day before the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, with just under 24 hours until Nintendo unveils its vision for the next generation of its popular console. Excitement is building, and a recent filing with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has sparked speculation about the potential controller lineup for the Switch 2.

On March 31, an FCC filing from Nintendo, under the product code "BEE-008," surfaced on Famiboards and was quickly picked up by Nintendo-focused outlets like GoNintendo. This filing appears to be for a new game controller, with many fans speculating that it could be the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller.

While Nintendo has not officially confirmed the existence of a Switch 2 Pro Controller, the filing's mention of Bluetooth and NFC capabilities suggests it could be a high-end model. One of the most intriguing aspects of this filing is the potential inclusion of a headphone jack, a feature absent from the original Switch Pro Controller but present in competitors like the DualSense and Xbox Series controllers. If true, this would represent a significant quality-of-life improvement for gamers.

It's worth noting that past FCC filings have occasionally provided early glimpses into Nintendo's plans, lending some credibility to the speculation surrounding this controller. However, until Nintendo's official reveal, this remains conjecture.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct is set to air tomorrow at 6am PT / 9am ET on Nintendo's channels. This event promises a "closer look" at the Switch 2 following its initial reveal earlier in the year, and fans are eagerly awaiting concrete details, including a potential release date.

Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 Direct will run for an hour, with two additional Nintendo Treehouse: Live | Nintendo Switch 2 presentations featuring hands-on gameplay scheduled for April 3 and April 4, starting at 7am PT each day. As the countdown to the Direct continues, the gaming community is abuzz with anticipation for what Nintendo has in store for the future of the Switch franchise.
