Author:Kristen Update:May 03,2025

As one of the longest movie franchises of all time, The Fast and Furious series has transformed from its humble beginnings as a street racing saga into a global phenomenon of high-octane action, grossing nearly $2 billion USD worldwide. The franchise has now expanded to include twelve films, with nine mainline entries, one spinoff, and two short films, creating a complex narrative that can be challenging to follow. With the latest installment, Fast X, now available to stream on Amazon, we've crafted this comprehensive guide to help you watch the Fast and Furious movies in chronological order.

At the end of this article, you'll also find a list of the films ordered by their release dates, should you prefer to watch them in the sequence they were released. Note that we do not include the animated series Fast & Furious: Spy Racers in our guides, as it is not integral to the ongoing narrative of the film series.

The franchise's journey begins with The Fast and the Furious, released in 2001. This film introduces us to the action-packed world of street racing and carjacking, with Paul Walker playing undercover cop Brian O'Conner, tasked with infiltrating a crew led by Vin Diesel's Dominic Toretto. Eva Mendes's character, Monica Fuentes, also makes an appearance, becoming a brief love interest for Brian, and she returns in Fast Five.
