Elden Ring Player Takes on Daily Messmer Challenge Awaiting Nightreign Release

One dedicated Elden Ring player is turning the wait for the upcoming spin-off, Elden Ring: Nightreign, into a unique challenge: battling the notoriously difficult boss, Messmer the Impaler, every single day until the game's launch.

A Daily Grind: New Weapons, No Hits, NG+7

YouTuber chickensandwich420 began this impressive feat on December 16, 2024. Initially planning a broader challenge encompassing various FromSoftware bosses, the player, a senior in university, opted for the daily Messmer fight to manage time constraints. Each attempt involves a different weapon and a strict "no hits" rule, all while playing on NG+7.

Messmer, the second antagonist in Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, is known for his brutal difficulty. Players frequently report needing 30 to over 150 attempts to defeat him, even with optimal equipment. chickensandwich420's undertaking is therefore a significant challenge.

However, there's a caveat: the challenge has a June deadline. If Nightreign doesn't release by then, chickensandwich420 will move on to other games. This means potentially over 160 days of battling Messmer. At the time of writing, the player is on day 23.

Elden Ring: Nightreign, a standalone three-player co-op title set in the Elden Ring universe, was announced at The Game Awards 2024 with a planned 2025 release. Given FromSoftware's track record, however, the actual release date remains uncertain. Only time will tell if chickensandwich420's dedication will be rewarded with Nightreign's timely arrival, or if a delayed launch will bring an end to this remarkable Messmer marathon.
