Eggers Directing Labyrinth Sequel

Author:Kristen Update:Mar 13,2025

Robert Eggers, fresh off his critically acclaimed gothic horror film Nosferatu, is set to direct a sequel to the beloved fantasy classic, Labyrinth. Variety reports that Eggers will write and direct this new chapter, collaborating with Sjón, his writing partner on The Northman. While a sequel was previously in development with Scott Derrickson attached, TriStar and Jim Henson Pictures have opted to move forward with Eggers’ vision.

PlayThe original 1986 *Labyrinth*, starring David Bowie as the Goblin King Jareth and Jennifer Connelly, captivated audiences with its dark fantasy world and memorable Henson puppets. Connelly’s character embarks on a perilous journey to rescue her baby brother from Jareth’s clutches.

This isn't Eggers' only project on the horizon. He's also helming a werewolf movie titled Werwulf, slated for a Christmas 2026 release. Details are scarce, but the film is set in 13th-century England and will feature dialogue in Old English. One can assume a certain amount of wolf-monster transformation will be involved.

Eggers’ Nosferatu, a remake of F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent film, was released last Christmas. Set in 19th-century Germany, the film follows a real estate agent whose dealings with a mysterious Transylvanian count unleash vampiric nightmares upon him and his wife.

Nosferatu garnered four Oscar nominations this year, including Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, and Makeup and Hairstyling. Read our review here.
