The Dungeon faction, also known as the Warlocks’ faction, has long captivated fans and effortlessly weaves into the rich tapestry of Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era. Our initial foray into Jadame not only introduced us to creatures intrinsically linked to the Dungeon faction but also highlighted their established domains across the continent. This foundation allowed developers to create a faction that honors its traditional roots while embracing innovative concepts.

If we were to encapsulate the essence of the Dungeon faction throughout the series in just two words, "power" and "outcasts" would be fitting. Revisiting the realm of Enroth offers a fresh opportunity to redefine these formidable warlocks. Drawing inspiration from Jadame's lore, particularly from Might and Magic VIII: The Alvaric Pact, the Dungeon faction undergoes a significant transformation.

Creatures once regarded as mere monsters now form alliances with red-skinned dark elves, a group historically marginalized for their pragmatic approach. Through diplomacy, trade, and strategic pacts, these once-disparate groups have forged a powerful coalition—a marked departure from the faction's portrayal in earlier iterations.

Throughout the Heroes of Might & Magic series, the Dungeon faction has been characterized by skilled warlocks and commanding leaders, each game presenting them in unique ways:

  • In Heroes I and Heroes II, the faction's members, serving Lord Alamar and King Archibald, were driven by a quest for power, rallying similar creatures under their banners.
  • In Heroes III, Nighon’s warlords embraced the philosophy that strength justifies dominance, ruling from underground tunnels with dreams of conquering Antagarich.
  • In Heroes IV, the faction transformed into chaotic sorcerers and thieves inhabiting Axeoth’s swamps, rallying rogues to claim territory in the emerging world.
  • From Heroes V to Heroes VII, Ashan’s dark elves allied with the Dragon-Goddess Malassa and the underworld, crafting a narrative rich with intrigue.
