Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii: A Blend of Serious Drama and Hilarious Mayhem

RGG Studio promises a unique blend of intense drama and over-the-top comedy in their upcoming title, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. This latest installment features a "serious" Majima, a departure from his typically comedic portrayal.

While the series is renowned for its humor, director Masayoshi Yokoyama reveals a shift in Majima's character. The narrative will initially focus on a more serious Majima, driven by a "manly drama" centered around his ambitions and relationships forged during his epic adventure, according to producer Ryosuke Horii. Horii emphasizes that while the game will include comedic elements, the core narrative is a straightforward story of a passionate man. He highlights the unique aspects of Majima that differentiate him from the series' long-time protagonist, Kazuma Kiryu, making Majima's role as the lead character essential. The developers aimed for a balance between the game's pirate theme, Majima's personality, and the overall Like a Dragon essence.

The team strived to create a compelling experience, avoiding predictability. They aimed for a wilder, more extravagant gameplay style while maintaining a serious and engaging narrative.

Majima's Maji Festival: A Japanese Celebration

To celebrate the game's launch, RGG Studio is hosting Majima's Maji Festival in six Japanese cities. The tour, which began in Sapporo on December 1st, 2024, concludes in Nagoya (January 18th) and Tokyo (January 25th).
