Dragon Age: The Veilguard Surprise Free Weapon DLC Released After Months of Silence

BioWare may have largely shifted its focus away from Dragon Age: The Veilguard, but that hasn't stopped the dedicated remaining team from surprising fans with a small yet delightful addition: a free DLC weapons pack. Dragon Age enthusiasts were taken aback when the RPG's Steam page was updated to include the Rook’s Weapons Appearance Offer. This unexpected treat comes as a pleasant surprise, especially after EA had hinted at minimal future support for the game. With the fifth patch back in January focusing primarily on fixing game-breaking bugs, any new content feels like a rare gift, even if it's modest in scale.

The Rook’s Weapons Appearance Offer is a bundle available exclusively to current owners of the game and those who purchase it on PC before April 8, 2025. While the exact contents of the bundle remain undisclosed, players have discovered that it includes a set of Watchful skins, accessible in the Rook's in-game room. It's unclear whether this offer will extend to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S versions of the game.

"Even if these appearances aren't the most, uh, beautiful things ever," one Steam review says, "they do give spooky eldritch horror vibes!" Another fan on Reddit commented, "It's cosmetic DLC, but it's essentially free DLC for a game that's practically no longer getting newer content. I'll live with that."

Dragon Age: The Veilguard launched to positive reviews from critics in October but, according to EA, failed to “resonate with a broad enough audience.” Key team members announced their departure from BioWare in late January, as much of the staff was either laid off or reassigned to other projects within the company. At the time, EA informed IGN that the studio was now focusing its “full focus” on the next Mass Effect.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard was added to the PlayStation Plus March 2025 titles lineup just four months after its release. No further plans for its future have been announced.
