Nintendo Switch 2 Stock to Meet U.S. Demand, Says Doug Bowser

Author:Kristen Update:Jul 30,2025

Will securing a Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. be challenging at launch and throughout 2025? Doug Bowser, President of Nintendo of America, assures that the company is prepared to meet consumer demand through the holiday season.

In an IGN interview discussing the new Nintendo San Francisco store, Bowser noted a robust positive response to the Switch 2 but emphasized a strategy for a steady product supply in 2025. The console is set to launch on June 5.

“Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa recently shared that we’re projecting 15 million Switch 2 units and 4.5 million original Switch units for the fiscal year,” Bowser stated.

“This forecast reflects our goal to replicate the success of the original Nintendo Switch in its first 10 months. In the U.S., we’re confident our production and supply chain will satisfy consumer demand. The strong early response to Switch 2, evident in preorders, has been encouraging, and we’re committed to ensuring a steady flow of units through the holidays.”

This is reassuring for U.S. consumers eager to purchase a Switch 2 this year. Preorders have faced challenges, with a delay caused by tariffs pushing the start to April 24. Priced at $449.99, the console’s preorders were predictably hectic. Additionally, Nintendo has cautioned U.S. customers who preordered through the My Nintendo Store that delivery by release date isn’t guaranteed due to overwhelming demand.

Bowser’s remarks, however, instill confidence that preorder customers will receive their consoles. For more details, see IGN’s Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.

Concerns have also surfaced about tariffs potentially increasing the Switch 2’s price or that of its games. When asked about maintaining the $450 price point, Bowser remained noncommittal but highlighted Nintendo’s pricing commitment.

Bowser responded cautiously, noting that Nintendo had “set expectations” by pricing the Switch 2 at $450 and the Mario Kart World bundle at $500.

“We established those price points for the single unit at $449 and the Mario Kart World bundle at $499, even after new tariffs were announced,” Bowser said.

“Our aim was to reassure consumers they could purchase at those prices. The situation remains fluid, and it’s hard to predict changes in the coming weeks or months. Still, we’re dedicated to making the Switch 2 and our other products as accessible as possible under current or evolving market conditions.”
