Donkey Kong Bananza Spurs Switch 2 Sales

Author:Kristen Update:Nov 20,2025

When preorders for the Nintendo Switch 2 started selling out, I explained why the original Switch remains a great buy. While I hadn't planned to upgrade immediately, the overwhelmingly positive reviews for Donkey Kong Bananza changed my mind. IGN's perfect 10/10 score and early Game of the Year buzz convinced me to purchase the new console sooner than expected. As a longtime Nintendo fan, the thought of missing this potential Donkey Kong masterpiece for a year was too much to bear.

Our Official Review Verdict:

"Donkey Kong Bananza redefines 3D platforming with fluid movement, dynamic abilities, fully destructible environments, and ingenious challenges that combine to create Nintendo's first true next-gen masterpiece." —Logan Plant

My Donkey Kong journey began with the Super Nintendo classic Donkey Kong Country, which provided countless hours of challenging co-op gameplay with my brother. Donkey Kong 64, the first 3D entry (requiring the Expansion Pak, if memory serves), remains one of my most cherished childhood gaming experiences for its groundbreaking design.

Nostalgia certainly influenced my decision to upgrade, but why deny myself some gaming magic? Despite concerns about limited stock, I secured a Mario Kart Switch 2 bundle at Target today. Restocks are appearing sporadically, with some Amazon customers receiving purchase invitations.

Nintendo Switch 2

Donkey Kong Bananza

Release Date: July 17, 2025. $69.99 at Target $69.99 at Amazon

I initially overlooked Bananza until Nintendo's dedicated Direct presentation revealed it was developed by the Mario Odyssey team. IGN's glowing review from trusted Nintendo experts sealed my enthusiasm, showcasing gameplay that felt simultaneously fresh and nostalgic.

The joy of exploring Mario Odyssey's vibrant worlds makes the prospect of a Donkey Kong adventure with similar polish incredibly exciting. The freedom to clobber obstacles, scale environments, and barrel through enemies as DK promises to satisfy a craving I've carried since childhood.

The only downside? My Switch 2 arrives three days after Bananza. Looks like I'll be admiring the game case until my console finally delivers.
