Dishonored 2 Gets Surprise Update 9 Years After Launch

Surprise Patch for Dishonored 2: Bug Fixes and Language Updates

Dishonored 2, a critically acclaimed Bethesda title for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, has received an unexpected small update across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. This minor patch appears focused on bug fixes and language file updates. The update's size is minimal (230MB on Steam, requiring a full 40GB re-download on Xbox), suggesting it doesn't include major gameplay changes.

Arkane Lyon, the studio behind Dishonored 2 and the recent Deathloop, is currently occupied with development of Marvel's Blade. This contrasts with the unfortunate closure of Arkane Austin (responsible for the original Dishonored, Prey, and Redfall) as part of the 2024 Xbox studio restructuring.

The lack of a highly anticipated 60 FPS mode in this update has left some fans disappointed. While other Arkane titles offer 60 FPS performance on newer consoles, Dishonored 2 remains locked at 30 FPS. The possibility of a future 60 FPS patch, perhaps coinciding with the game's tenth anniversary in 2026, remains speculative. The absence of Arkane Austin also casts doubt on the timeline for a potential third mainline Dishonored installment.

In short, while the update provides some minor improvements, the absence of performance enhancements highlights a continued area of player concern. The future of the Dishonored franchise remains uncertain, with Arkane Lyon's current focus on Marvel's Blade.
