The developers of The Witcher 3 planned to include Triss's wedding in the game

The Witcher 3's "Ashen Marriage" mission, set in Novigrad, revolves around Triss Merigold's whirlwind romance with the nobleman, Castello. Geralt, ever the helpful friend, assists with wedding preparations, from monster-clearing in the canals to procuring alcohol and selecting a wedding gift for Triss. The gift choice is significant; a memory rose, a callback to The Witcher 2, evokes a powerful emotional response from Triss, while less sentimental gifts receive a cooler reception.

However, Dijkstra's revelation that Castello is secretly connected to witch hunters throws a wrench into the wedding plans. Castello's involvement stems from blackmail—the hunters threaten to expose his illegitimate daughter from a previous marriage.

Geralt faces the choice of revealing this truth to Triss, either alone or with Castello present. Regardless of his approach, the wedding is called off. Triss's reaction varies—disappointment in her fiancé or gratitude for his honesty—but the hasty nature of the marriage is ultimately deemed unsuitable.

This unexpected plot twist offers a compelling opportunity to deepen Geralt and Triss's relationship and further develop the supporting characters.
