Days Gone Remastered Discounted Upgrade, Now on PS+

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 21,2025

Days Gone Remastered, a highlight of Sony's recent State of Play presentation, has sparked controversy among PlayStation Plus subscribers due to its $10 upgrade policy.

Sony's $10 upgrade path to the PlayStation 5 remastered version is exclusively available to owners of the PlayStation 4 disc or digital copy of Days Gone. This excludes those who acquired the game through PlayStation Plus, either via the now-defunct PS Plus Collection or the April 2021 Essential monthly offering. These players must pay the full $49.99 price for the PS5 remaster.

This pricing detail has ignited a wave of online complaints from affected PS Plus subscribers. A PlayStation Plus subreddit thread is filled with comments from users who would have gladly paid the $10 upgrade fee but will now forgo the game entirely.

Several commenters highlight the potential lost revenue. One user, squarejellyfish_, notes that Sony could have profited significantly even from those who weren't fully committed to playing the game, suggesting many would have paid $10 for a short trial. Others echo this sentiment, expressing willingness to pay the upgrade fee but not the full game price. The perception is that Sony is missing out on substantial potential sales by excluding PS Plus users. One user, jackanyon95, criticizes Sony's decision, arguing that the game didn't warrant a remaster and that the free PS Plus distribution should have been factored into the upgrade pricing.

However, some subscribers are unsurprised by Sony's decision, suggesting the company's financial analysis likely justified the restriction. Despite this, Sony is facing criticism for perceived stinginess, particularly from loyal fans who anticipated a more generous approach.

Days Gone Remastered wasn't the only PlayStation game unveiled at the State of Play. For a complete overview of the announcements, refer to IGN's State of Play February 2025 roundup.
