Crash Bandicoot 5 Allegedly Canceled After Studio Went Indie

A former Toys For Bob concept artist, Nicholas Kole, recently hinted on X (formerly Twitter) that a Crash Bandicoot 5 may have been canceled. This revelation follows Kole's discussion of another scrapped project, "Project Dragon," sparking speculation amongst fans.

"Project Dragon" and the Unspoken Crash 5

Kole clarified that "Project Dragon" was an original IP developed with Phoenix Labs, not a Spyro title as some had assumed. However, he added a cryptic comment hinting at a similar fate for a potential Crash Bandicoot 5: "It is not Spyro, but some day folks will hear about the Crash 5 that never was and it’s gonna break hearts," he stated. His prediction proved accurate, with fans expressing significant disappointment at the news.

The cancellation news comes after Toys For Bob's transition from Activision Blizzard to an independent studio earlier this year, following Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard. While Toys For Bob is now partnering with Microsoft Xbox for their upcoming debut title, details remain scarce.

The last mainline Crash Bandicoot game, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, launched in 2020 and sold over five million copies. Subsequent releases included Crash Bandicoot: On the Run! (2021) and Crash Team Rumble (2023), the latter ending its live service in March 2024.

With Toys For Bob now operating independently, the possibility of a future Crash Bandicoot 5 remains open. However, the recent revelations leave fans uncertain about the timeline, hoping it won't be years before any potential announcement.
