How to Cook & Eat Meals Before Hunting in Monster Hunter Wilds

Fueling Your Hunts: A Guide to Cooking and Eating in Monster Hunter Wilds

Monster hunting demands preparation, and a hearty meal is crucial. This guide explains how to cook and consume meals in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Cooking Methods:

Unlike previous Monster Hunter titles, Wilds requires you to prepare your own meals. There are two convenient methods:

  1. Tent Cooking: After accepting a quest, access your tent. Navigate to the BBQ menu (using L1 or R1) and select "Grill a Meal."

  2. Portable BBQ Grill: Alternatively, equip the Portable BBQ Grill from your inventory and press the square button to initiate cooking.

Meal Selection:

The cooking menu offers three meal types:

  • Recommended Meal: A simple option using a Ration and any additional ingredients. A Ration-only meal provides a 30-minute buff with +50 Health, +150 Stamina, and +2 Attack. Adding ingredients extends this buff by 20 minutes. This is a solid baseline for hunt preparation.

  • Custom Meal: Allows for greater customization. Choose one Ration (meat, fish, or vegetables, each providing different buffs like increased attack, defense, or elemental resistances), one ingredient (enhancing buffs like gathering or damage reduction), and a finishing touch.

  • Favorite Meal: This option allows you to select previously saved custom meal combinations for quick access.

Once your meal is cooked, your hunter automatically consumes it, readying you for the hunt.
