How to Unlock Caldarus Events Gift Preferences ### How to Unlock Caldarus as a Romanceable Character in Fields of Mistria

To unlock Caldarus as a romanceable character, you must break the Fire Seal located on Floor 60 of the mines. You'll need to offer four specific items: a Sealing Scroll, a Faceted Rock Gem, an Emerald, and a Rockroot. Upon completing this offering, a cutscene will play where the Mines Priestess warns you to leave or risk being sealed. As your health depletes, Caldarus dramatically appears, assumes his human form, and bestows upon you the Dragon’s Breath spell before retreating to the Deep Woods. In this form, you can engage in daily conversations and gift-giving with Caldarus, similar to other romanceable NPCs in Mistria.

After breaking the seal, Caldarus can be found at his temple in the Deep Woods. To permanently unlock this area on your map, use the Dragon’s Breath spell.

Caldarus’ Heart Events in Fields of Mistria

Upon unlocking, Caldarus starts with six hearts, which is currently the maximum heart level. As of the March 2025 update, there are no specific heart events for Caldarus, but future updates are expected to add more. Currently, you can experience a few cutscenes with him: an introductory dream sequence at the game's start, which explains the magic system and mechanics, and another where Caldarus rescues you from the Sealing Scroll’s fate after breaking the Fire Seal, revealing his human form and retreating to recover.

With the latest update, you can also enjoy a real date with Caldarus during the Shooting Star Festival on Summer 28.

The Shooting Star Festival

The Shooting Star Festival marks the end of summer in Fields of Mistria and offers a chance to take any romanceable NPC with four or more hearts on a date to the Summit to watch the stars. Since Caldarus starts with six hearts, you're automatically eligible to attend with him. To do so, gift him the Star Brooch before 8 PM on Summer 28 and meet him afterward to confirm your attendance. This triggers a special cutscene where Caldarus expresses gratitude for the invitation, discusses the stars and the ancient Mistrian tradition of Starbinding, and delves into deep conversations about connections and the nature of souls. The date concludes with an invitation to watch the stars from his temple.
