The Tournament quest becomes available through Gyoji, a resident of Yamato, after you've taken down several members of The Shinbakufu. Gyoji will be waiting outside the hideout, eager to discuss the tournament with you. The secret fighting arena is nestled in Southeastern Yamato at the Ominesanji Temple. To the west of this area, you'll find the Ominesanji Overlook viewpoint. We highly recommend synchronizing here to establish a fast travel point, making it easier to return to the location and switch characters as needed.

Upon reaching Ominesanji Temple, engage in conversation with Gyoji once more. He'll brief you on the challenge ahead: you must win four one-on-one duels before facing the ultimate champion. After the cutscene, ring the bell to kick off your first fight.

How to Complete The Tournament in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

The Tournament is a gauntlet of high-stakes, life-or-death battles. Fortunately, you can take breaks between fights, using the time to ring the bell for the next match when ready. Use these intervals to heal with rations and upgrade or switch your weapons and armor as necessary.

To triumph over each opponent, equip Yasuke with a long katana and master the art of dodging and parrying to exploit their vulnerabilities. Utilize abilities such as Power Dash and Payback when your adrenaline is sufficient. Knowing the weapon each fighter wields can give you an edge; here's a breakdown of your adversaries:

  • Lady Masago wields a Naginata.
  • Lord Suguru uses a Katana.
  • Lord Hokuto battles with a Kanabo.
  • Lady O-Sen fights with two Poison Katanas and throws ranged items.
  • Lord Unkai uses a Naginata and can heal if you stay too far away for a few seconds.

Once you've defeated all challengers and completed the first tournament, meet Gyoji atop the hill. He'll express his gratitude and promise to notify you of future tournaments. This conversation will trigger the unlocking of the "Test Your Might" trophy.

Best Loadout and Skills for Tournaments in Assassin’s Creed Shadows

The Long Katana is your weapon of choice for dominating The Tournament. Ensure you equip the highest rarity Long Katana available and upgrade it to its maximum potential at the hideout's blacksmith. Engravings that boost Armor Damage or Armor Piercing can significantly enhance your combat effectiveness. However, your armor choice is equally crucial, as it not only increases your health but can also provide game-changing abilities through engravings.

Before entering The Tournament, secure the Samurai Daimyo Armor of Legend by defeating The Ox, a member of The Shinbakufu. Additionally, earn the Protector’s Armor by completing one of the Castles. The Samurai Daimyo Armor of Legend offers a 75% damage increase at the cost of limiting your health to 25%, while the Protector’s Armor enables you to parry unblockable attacks. Combining these engravings into one armor set can allow you to defeat tournament enemies in under a minute, provided you parry effectively and frequently.

For skills, allocate as many Mastery points as possible into the Long Katana and Samurai skill trees. Prioritize maxing out Combat Expert to enhance your melee weapon damage, and unlock Power Dash and Payback to bolster your combat prowess.

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* is set to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on March 20th, offering players an immersive experience filled with challenges like The Tournament.
