Hemsworth's Thor Tribute Sparks Avengers Fate Concerns

Author:Kristen Update:Nov 10,2025

Marvel actor Chris Hemsworth has shared a tribute video dedicated to Thor, fueling speculation that the character might meet his end in Avengers: Doomsday.

Titled "Thank You! The Legacy of Thor," the video features clips from Hemsworth's early audition tapes all the way through his role in 2022's Thor: Love and Thunder. While it may simply be a nostalgic retrospective of a character he has portrayed since 2011—now that filming for Avengers: Doomsday is underway—some viewers interpret it as a farewell message or a final send-off for Thor.

Hemsworth also included a heartfelt note in the video's description:

“Portraying Thor has been one of the greatest privileges of my career. For 15 years, I’ve wielded Mjolnir and Stormbreaker as the God of Thunder, but what truly made the experience meaningful… was sharing it with all of you. Your enthusiasm, your cheers, and your affection for this character have meant the world to me.

“Thank you for making my journey across the Marvel Cinematic Universe so unforgettable. Next up: Doomsday!”

This emotional message, paired with the tribute video, has raised concerns among MCU enthusiasts that Chris Hemsworth may be preparing to retire from the role.

“Please never step away from this part. We all want you to stay,” one fan commented on the video. “Never stop playing Thor,” implored another.

Similar worries are circulating on social media. “Looks like Thor is definitely dying in the next film,” one X/Twitter user wrote. “Yeah, he’s done for,” added another.

There's important context behind these rumors. Last year, Hemsworth acknowledged that he "didn't stick the landing" with the polarizing Thor: Love and Thunder and expressed feeling that he owed fans a stronger performance.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Hemsworth reflected that he leaned too heavily into comedy and improvisation in Love and Thunder, which may have weakened the film—especially compared to Thor: Ragnarok, where a lighter tone helped the character resonate widely.

"I got carried away with improv and silliness, and ended up becoming a caricature of myself," Hemsworth admitted. "I didn’t stick the landing." According to Vanity Fair, he hasn't been able to forgive himself for that performance and believes he owes fans one more film. Could Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars serve as that redemption, or would a Thor 5 be a more fitting conclusion?

The likelihood of a Thor 5 previously seemed low after Hemsworth—who has appeared in eight MCU films—stated that he is ready to "close the book" on the role. In addition, Taika Waititi, who directed Ragnarok and Love and Thunder, has stepped away due to a busy schedule.

Marvel Studios recently delayed both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars to December 2026 and December 2027, respectively. The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and the two Avengers films are currently the only MCU movies with officially confirmed release dates.
