Capcom Updates ‘Resident Evil 4′, ‘Resident Evil Village’, and ‘Resident Evil 7’ on iOS With Online DRM

TouchArcade Rating: While updates for premium mobile ports often improve optimization or compatibility, Capcom's recent update for Resident Evil 7 biohazard, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Resident Evil Village on iOS and iPadOS introduces unwelcome online DRM. This DRM verifies purchase history upon game launch, checking for ownership of the game and any DLC. Rejecting the verification closes the application. This means consistent online connectivity is now mandatory, even to access saved games. Prior to this update, all three titles functioned offline.

Pre-update testing confirmed offline playability. Post-update, the verification prompt appears, and declining it terminates the game. While this may not affect all users, the forced online check is a significant drawback for a premium title. Ideally, Capcom should implement a less intrusive purchase verification method, perhaps checking less frequently. This update negatively impacts the recommendation of these otherwise excellent ports.
