Blizzard was selling skin in Overwatch 2, but announced a free giveaway 24 hours later

Blizzard is once again at the heart of an Overwatch 2 controversy. A new Lucio skin, the Cyber DJ, initially appeared in the in-game store for $19.99. However, a day later, Blizzard announced a Twitch event: viewers watching for one hour on February 12th would receive the same skin for free.

This revelation angered many players who had already purchased the Cyber DJ. This isn't the first time Blizzard has sold cosmetic items only to later offer them for free through promotions, leading to widespread calls for refunds. While the Cyber DJ skin has been removed from the store, Blizzard has yet to address the refund requests.

Adding to Blizzard's challenges, Marvel Rivals is significantly outperforming Overwatch 2. In response, Blizzard announced a special Overwatch 2 Spotlight event on February 12th to showcase revolutionary gameplay changes. This event will unveil new maps, heroes, and other content, and will feature prominent streamers given a preview at Blizzard headquarters. The event promises a first look at upcoming game updates.
