Baddie Returns for Marvel's MCU Vision Quest

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 12,2025

Marvel's upcoming Vision Quest series is reportedly resurrecting a villain from the very first MCU film, Iron Man.

Deadline reports that Faran Tahir will reprise his role as Raza Hamidmi al-Wazar, the Afghan terrorist leader who held Tony Stark captive in the opening scenes of Iron Man, nearly two decades later. His betrayal by Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridges) marked his last MCU appearance until now.

While absent from the MCU since Iron Man's initial 30 minutes in 2008, al-Wazar's return mirrors the reappearance of Samuel Sterns (The Incredible Hulk) in Captain America: Brave New World. The Vision Quest series, starring Paul Bettany as White Vision following WandaVision, currently lacks a release date.

Initially portrayed as the head of a generic terrorist group, al-Wazar's backstory was significantly enriched in Phase 4. His group was subtly revealed to be connected to the Ten Rings, a link further developed in 2021's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. This retroactive inclusion establishes al-Wazar as a Ten Rings commander, potentially forging a connection between Shang-Chi and Vision Quest.

Similar to Deadpool & Wolverine's exploration of the discarded Fox Marvel universe, Vision Quest might delve into previously overlooked MCU elements. The series will also feature the return of James Spader as Ultron, his first appearance since Avengers: Age of Ultron, though details remain scarce.
