"Avengers: Doomsday Precedes Spider-Man's Brand New Day, Fans Anticipate Grounded Tale"

Last night, Disney announced a significant delay for the highly anticipated films Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) will have to wait longer to see Earth's mightiest heroes in action. Avengers: Doomsday is now set to premiere on December 18, 2026, pushing its release back by seven months. Avengers: Secret Wars will follow a year later, on December 17, 2027. Amidst these changes, the focus has shifted to another beloved character—Spider-Man.

Tom Holland's Peter Parker is slated to return in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, scheduled for July 31, 2026. This film will continue Peter's journey post-No Way Home, where his identity was wiped from public memory. Before the delay, Spider-Man: Brand New Day was positioned between Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, raising expectations of a narrative intertwined with multiversal adventures. However, with the new schedule, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will now precede both Avengers films. This shift has sparked hope among fans for a more grounded, street-level story set in the Marvel universe.

Previously, fans speculated that Avengers: Doomsday would end on a cliffhanger similar to Avengers: Infinity War, which would necessitate Spider-Man: Brand New Day to address or set up events related to the larger MCU narrative. With the new timeline, Spider-Man: Brand New Day can now explore a more independent narrative, free from the immediate aftermath of Doomsday. This change has led to excitement among fans who are eager to see Peter Parker back in action, swinging through the streets of New York.

"That completely changes things for Spider-Man 4," remarked one fan on Reddit about the delay and Brand New Day now coming first. "At least in the framing of how we thought it NEEDED to be in between both films timeline-wise. Now it sounds like it won't be."

Another fan wrote, "If Spider-Man: Brand New Day isn't also delayed, I think that basically would confirm it isn't a multiverse battle world movie," referencing the holding location Marvel's heroes are left at within the comics during the original Secret Wars storyline.

The general consensus among Spider-Man enthusiasts is a desire to see the character in a more personal, city-focused story. Disney's delay has been seen as a positive move in this direction. One fan expressed, "This is the best Spider-Man 4 news we've gotten."

Speculation is rife that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will allow for a grounded narrative, aligning with recent casting rumors and online discussions. Earlier this month, Liza Colón-Zayas, known for her role as Tina Marrero on FX's The Bear, was reportedly cast in Brand New Day. Fans believe she might portray the mother of Miles Morales, the alternate Spider-Man whose popularity surged following Sony's Spider-Verse animated films.

In addition to the Avengers and Spider-Man delays, Disney also removed an untitled Marvel project from its schedule, set for February 13, 2026. Speculation suggests this was a placeholder for the long-awaited Blade reboot starring Mahershala Ali, which might now be excluded from this MCU saga, if it ever comes to fruition.

Other scheduled Marvel film dates for November 6, 2026, and November 5, 2027, have been changed to "Untitled Disney" films, potentially indicating a lighter MCU movie lineup in the coming years.

Looking ahead, 2025 will see The Fantastic Four: First Steps hit the big screen in July, while Disney+ series like Ironheart and Wonder-Man are set to debut. Next year's Disney+ lineup includes the second season of Daredevil Born Again (expected in the spring), a Punisher one-off special, and Vision Quest, starring Paul Bettany, which has quietly begun filming.
