Recent Windows 11 Update Disrupts Assassin's Creed Gameplay; Patches Released

A recent Windows 11 update (24H2) introduced compatibility problems for several Assassin's Creed titles. However, Ubisoft has swiftly addressed the issue for Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla with dedicated patches. These updates, available via Steam, resolve launch and functionality problems experienced by players after installing the Windows update. Note that the Origins patch requires 230 MB of storage, while the Valhalla update needs 500 MB.

Despite these fixes, some Ubisoft games, notably Assassin's Creed Odyssey, remain affected. While previous patches mitigated similar problems for titles like Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, performance issues may persist. Players experiencing difficulties with Odyssey are advised to postpone updating to Windows 11 24H2 until a dedicated patch becomes available.

The root cause of the incompatibility remains unclear. Reports of these issues surfaced five months before the official 24H2 rollout, raising concerns about the testing and release process. This is particularly concerning given Microsoft's push for Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11. Fortunately, the majority of games appear unaffected by the update.
