Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Max Level and Rank Cap Revealed

Author:Kristen Update:Apr 05,2025

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* stands out as one of the most expansive entries in the franchise, featuring a comprehensive progression system that matches its grand scale. This guide will delve into the maximum levels, the level cap, and how progression works in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*.

What Is the Max XP Level in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* introduces a revamped progression system, where unlocking skills is tied to the new Knowledge Ranks system. However, traditional XP-based progression remains a key component, allowing players to unlock higher-tier weapons, armor, and gear, as well as enhance Naoe and Yasuke’s base stats.

To explore all the Japanese provinces on the game’s map, players only need to reach Level 35. However, the XP grind doesn’t stop there. Initially, Ubisoft hinted at a Level Cap of 40, but players can actually progress up to Level 60. With the upcoming *Claws of Awaji* expansion, this level cap might increase even further.

In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, the Knowledge Rank system revolutionizes progression. This system is distinct from the XP leveling and is advanced by earning Knowledge Points through various open-world activities focused on mindfulness and training. As players progress through the Knowledge Ranks, new skills become available for Naoe and Yasuke, although these skills still require Mastery Points to be unlocked.

To access all available skills, players must reach Knowledge Rank 6. However, the journey doesn’t end there; upon reaching this rank, Naoe and Yasuke unlock a new Knowledge tree with passive skills, allowing players to further refine their build according to their preferred playstyle.

Is There a Cap for Mastery in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

Mastery is the third pillar of progression in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, serving as the game’s version of skill points. These points are crucial for unlocking new skills within the six Mastery trees available for each protagonist. The amount of Mastery required varies from skill to skill.

With a multitude of skills to unlock, players have numerous opportunities to earn Mastery Points through various in-game activities. While there’s a theoretical limit to Mastery Points, reaching it would require extensive play. The upcoming *Claws of Awaji* expansion is expected to introduce additional ways to earn Mastery Points in 2025.

Does Assassin’s Creed Shadows Have Level Scaling?

In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, each province in Japan has an associated level. At the start, the highest level requirement is for the Kii province, which requires Level 35. As players advance and gain XP, the levels of certain regions will adjust to match the player’s level.

From Level 42 onwards, the scaling levels out, with each province’s recommended level staying two levels below the player’s current XP level. This ensures a consistent challenge and maintains combat pacing in the endgame, rewarding players who invest significant time into the game.

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows is available now on PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.*
