Apptoide, the so-called first free App Store for iOS, is now available for free in the EU

Aptoide, the independent app store, is now freely available on iOS for EU users. While it claims to be the first free alternative app store on iOS, the Epic Games Store actually launched first. However, Aptoide might be the first general, third-party storefront offering a broader range of apps beyond just games.

For those who've been seeking iOS alternatives, options have been limited due to Apple's strict control. However, following legal challenges and the Epic Games Store's iOS launch, Aptoide now enters the arena. We previously covered Aptoide's beta in mid-2024, but now the full app is available for free download (in the EU).

While Aptoide boldly claims to be the first alternative storefront, the Epic Games Store's prior release should be acknowledged. Aptoide's distinction lies in its wider app selection, including a unique feature: users can choose specific app versions, a feature previously exclusive to Android and now a key differentiator.

Although the above might sound subtly skeptical, Aptoide has a strong case for being the first, particularly considering its beta period. The Epic Games Store, while not owned by Apple or Google, is still operated by a major industry player. Aptoide represents a genuinely independent alternative.
