Stop Destroying Video Games Petition Gains MomentumEine Petition der Europäischen Union, in der Verlage aufgefordert werden, die Spielbarkeit von Online-Spielen nach Serverabschaltungen aufrechtzuerhalten, gewinnt erheblich an Bedeutung. Die Initiative, die eine Million Unterschriften anstrebt, hat in sieben Mitgliedsstaaten bereits ihre Schwelle überschritten.

Stop Destroying Video Games Petition Gains MomentumDie Petition „Stoppt die Zerstörung von Videospielen“ hat bemerkenswerten Erfolg erzielt und die Unterzeichnungsziele in Dänemark, Finnland, Deutschland, Irland, den Niederlanden, Polen und Schweden übertroffen. Mit 397.943 gesammelten Unterschriften hat die Petition ihr Ziel von einer Million Unterschriften zu 39 % erreicht.

Die im Juni gestartete Petition befasst sich direkt mit der wachsenden Sorge, dass Spiele nach dem Ende der Publisher-Unterstützung nicht mehr spielbar sind. Sie befürwortet eine Gesetzgebung, die von den Herausgebern verlangt, die weitere Funktionsfähigkeit von Online-Spielen auch nach der offiziellen Schließung sicherzustellen und die Ferndeaktivierung von Spielen zu verhindern, ohne angemessene Alternativen für das weitere Spielen bereitzustellen.

In der Petition heißt es: „Diese Initiative fordert Verlage, die Videospiele in der EU verkaufen oder lizenzieren, dazu auf, die Spiele in einem spielbaren Zustand zu halten. Ziel ist es, Verlage daran zu hindern, Videospiele aus der Ferne zu deaktivieren, ohne angemessene Mittel zur unabhängigen Aufrechterhaltung der Funktionalität anzubieten.“

Stop Destroying Video Games Petition Gains MomentumDie Petition beleuchtet die Kontroverse um die Schließung von The Crew durch Ubisoft im März 2024. Trotz einer beträchtlichen Spielerbasis (über 12 Millionen weltweit) wurde das Spiel aufgrund von Server- und Lizenzproblemen nicht spielbar , was in Kalifornien Empörung und sogar rechtliche Schritte auslöste.

Während die Petition noch erhebliche Unterstützung benötigt, um ihr Ziel zu erreichen, haben EU-Bürger im Wahlalter bis zum 31. Juli 2025 Zeit, ihre Unterschriften beizufügen. Auch wenn Nicht-EU-Bürger nicht unterschreiben können, können sie doch dazu beitragen, das Bewusstsein für diese wichtige Initiative zu schärfen.
