Viking-Themed Strategy Game Captivates with XCOM-Inspired Combat

Arctic Hazard unveils "Norse," a captivating new strategy game echoing the XCOM formula, but transplanted to the Viking Age of Norway. The game promises a richly detailed historical setting and an immersive narrative, masterfully crafted by award-winning author Giles Kristian.

While the gaming market boasts numerous medieval fantasy titles, Norse carves its own niche. Games like Manor Lords and Medieval Dynasty offer medieval European settings with survival elements, and Imperator: Rome lets players command Roman legions. However, Vikings remain a consistently popular theme, and Norse capitalizes on this.

This turn-based strategy title, akin to XCOM, casts players as Gunnar, a young warrior seeking vengeance for his father's murder at the hands of Steinarr Far-Spear. Gunnar's journey involves establishing a settlement, recruiting allies, and building a formidable Viking army. Unlike survival-focused games like Valheim, Norse prioritizes a compelling storyline.

Norse's Historical Accuracy and Narrative Depth

To guarantee historical authenticity and a gripping narrative, Arctic Hazard partnered with Giles Kristian, a Sunday Times bestselling author with over a million books sold and extensive experience writing Viking-themed fiction. The game's trailer showcases a commitment to accurately depicting Norway, aiming for an unforgettable Viking experience.

Gameplay details available on Arctic Hazard's website reveal village management mechanics, where villagers collaborate to craft and improve Viking warrior equipment. Units boast customization options and diverse classes, including Berserkers (frenzied melee fighters) and Bogmathr (long-range archers).

Developed using Unreal Engine 5, Norse is slated for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Players can add Norse to their Steam wishlists, though a release date remains unannounced.
