Ananta Emerges as Project Mugen Evolves

NetEase's Upcoming Open-World RPG, Ananta (formerly Project Mugen), Unveils New Trailer

Remember Project Mugen, the anticipated urban open-world RPG from Naked Rain and NetEase? The game has undergone a name change, now officially titled Ananta. First revealed at Gamescom 2023, Ananta has finally released a new trailer after a long period of silence, with further details promised on December 5th. Until then, enjoy the official trailer:

The Name Change: A Mystery

Developers haven't yet explained the reason behind the name change. Interestingly, both "Ananta" (Sanskrit for infinite) and "Mugen" (Japanese for infinite) share the same meaning. The Chinese title also reflects this concept. While the gaming community is divided on the rebranding, there's relief that the project is still progressing.

Comparisons and Contrasts

Ananta is already being compared to Hotta Studio's upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness. While Ananta's trailer is visually impressive, the lack of gameplay footage gives Neverness to Everness a current advantage in the eyes of many players. However, Ananta's aesthetic appeal is undeniable.

A Curious Social Media Strategy

Adding to the intrigue, the development team has deleted all original social media accounts, including a YouTube channel with over 100,000 subscribers and millions of views. Only the Discord server remains, albeit renamed. This unexpected move has left many gamers perplexed.

Gameplay and Characters

In Ananta, players assume the role of an Infinite Trigger, a paranormal investigator confronting supernatural chaos. The cast includes characters like Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila. For further details on gameplay mechanics, visit the official website.
