Kesenian Tradisional Batak Mandailing: Gordang Sambilan

Gordang Sambilan merupakan warisan budaya Batak Mandailing yang kaya makna. "Gordang" berarti gendang atau bedug, sementara "sambilan" berarti sembilan. Sesuai namanya, alat musik ini terdiri dari sembilan buah gendang dengan ukuran dan diameter berbeda, menghasilkan variasi nada yang unik.

Biasanya, enam orang memainkan Gordang Sambilan. Perannya terbagi, dengan gendang terkecil (1 dan 2) berfungsi sebagai taba-taba, gendang ke-3 sebagai tepe-tepe, gendang ke-4 dan ke-5 sebagai kudong-kudong (ke-5 dimainkan terbalik), gendang ke-6 sebagai pasilion, dan gendang ke-7, 8, dan 9 sebagai jangat.

Dahulu, Gordang Sambilan hanya dimainkan dalam upacara sakral. Namun, seiring perkembangan zaman, kesenian ini kini sering menghiasi berbagai acara, seperti pernikahan, penyambutan tamu, dan perayaan hari besar. Sebagai bentuk apresiasi terhadap warisan budaya Indonesia, Gordang Sambilan bahkan pernah dipentaskan di Istana Presiden. [2]
