Разработчик подчеркнул, что Lost Colony напрямую связывает сюжетные элементы из дополнений Extinction и Genesis к Ark, одновременно закладывая narrative-основу для Ark 2.

Созданная на Unreal Engine 5, Ark 2 является наследником следующего поколения для чрезвычайно успешной Ark: Survival Evolved. Изначально представленная на The Game Awards 2020 с неожиданным появлением Вин Дизеля и планировавшаяся к выходу в 2022 году, сиквел несколько раз переносился — сначала на 2023 год, затем на конец 2024 года в качестве эксклюзива для Xbox Series X/S, запускающегося одновременно на Game Pass и ПК-платформах.
