Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom to Support Cloud Saves

Author:Kristen Update:May 07,2025

Nintendo has exciting news for fans of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom—the Switch 2 version will indeed support cloud saves. Initially, there was concern when Nintendo's website included a disclaimer stating that the game would not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership's Save Data Cloud backup feature. However, the company has since updated the information, clarifying the situation.

The revised disclaimer now reads: "Save data created in the second save data slot in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition cannot be transferred to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Nintendo Switch." This update suggests that players will be able to transfer their old Switch 1 saves to the new Switch 2 devices, but not vice versa. This clarification should ease the worries of many Switch 2 owners.

Interestingly, the page for Donkey Kong Bananza has removed all references to cloud saves, leaving fans of that game in the dark. Meanwhile, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition page now includes the same message regarding save transfers, indicating a consistent policy across these titles.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders, priced at $449.99, went live overnight and were met with the high demand you'd expect. For those interested in securing their own, check out IGN's comprehensive Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
