Ygwulf's Fate in Avowed: Kill or Spare?

Ygwulf

In the early stages of *Avowed*'s main quest, the Envoy becomes the victim of a tragic assassination. As you delve into solving your own murder mystery during the "Untimely End" quest, you'll uncover that the perpetrator is Ygwulf, a member of the Paradisan Rebels, who fiercely oppose Aedyr’s presence in the region. With your status as the emperor's Envoy, you're a prime target for their cause.

After meticulous detective work alongside Kai and Marius in Paradis, you'll eventually track Ygwulf to an underground hideout. Navigating through this area requires you to eliminate numerous enemies and engage in some platforming, so ensure you're well-equipped with Health Potions and top-tier gear. As you explore, you might stumble upon documents that shed light on Ygwulf's true intentions and his remorse. Initially driven by misguided visions that he believed were divine, Ygwulf comes to regret his actions. Even if you miss these documents, he'll express his remorse and readiness to face justice when you confront him at the quest's climax.

What Happens If You Spare Ygwulf or He Turns Himself In?

Opting for Ygwulf to surrender to the Inquisitor of the Steel Garrote is the least favorable choice. If you send him to turn himself in, he'll face the brutal Inquisitor Lödwyn, likely meeting a painful end. However, this path doesn't yield the best rewards compared to sparing him or defeating him in combat.

Choosing to spare Ygwulf grants you 625 Copper Skeyt and a modest amount of Adra, reflecting his gratitude for your mercy. While these resources aren't game-changing, they can be beneficial. Yet, sparing him won't change his ultimate fate, as he is destined to be killed later in the storyline.

Here’s Why You Should Kill Ygwulf in Avowed

Given that Ygwulf's fate is sealed, opting to attack him during the dialogue is the most advantageous choice. This decision leads to a boss fight, serving as excellent practice for future encounters in *Avowed*. Moreover, defeating Ygwulf in battle rewards you with the best loot among the available options.

Upon defeating him, you can loot his body for currency, Adra, and his unique armor set, Blackwing. Beyond its striking appearance, the Blackwing armor offers significant stealth advantages, including a +30% damage boost when attacking from stealth and a 25% movement speed increase while crouching, enhancing your ability to evade and surprise enemies.

Does Ygwulf’s Fate Affect the Story in Avowed? SPOILER WARNING

Despite being encountered early in the game, Ygwulf's fate subtly influences *Avowed*'s ending. After the final gameplay section, the game's conclusion features art and narration illustrating the impact of your decisions on Eora's Living Lands.

Regardless of your efforts to unify and pacify the Living Lands, Ygwulf's death is inevitable. This event radicalizes the Paradisan Rebellion, ensuring they remain a violent opposition to your efforts even after the game's credits roll.
