On June 13, 2022, Sony revolutionized gaming subscriptions in North America with the launch of the new PlayStation Plus. This service is divided into three tiers, effectively merging the old PS Plus with PS Now. Depending on the tier you choose, you'll unlock a variety of services and games tailored to different gaming needs.
With over 700 games spanning more than two decades, the PS Plus Premium tier offers an expansive collection that can feel overwhelming. Navigating through the PS Plus app to find your next favorite can be challenging, making it beneficial to get acquainted with some of the standout titles before committing to a subscription. Sony regularly updates the library, adding new PS5 and PS4 games each month, often complemented by classic titles.
Let's explore some of the best games available on PlayStation Plus.
Updated on January 5, 2025, by Mark Sammut: PlayStation Plus has unveiled its Essential lineup for the start of 2025. The selection has sparked mixed reactions, but one game stands out as a timeless classic.
Our rankings consider not just the quality of the games but also factors like their addition date to PS Plus. New additions are temporarily prioritized for visibility, and PS Plus Essential games are highlighted first when mentioned.
While the new year's offerings for PS Plus Extra and Premium are yet to be fully assessed, Sony has confirmed that several significant titles will be departing in January 2025. As it stands, 11 games are scheduled to leave on January 21. Here are the most notable departures:
Resident Evil 2: A standout exit for January 2025, Capcom's 2019 remake of the PS1 classic is a strong contender for the best game in the storied franchise. It masterfully blends horror with action, offering two distinct campaigns where players control Leon and Claire as they navigate the terrifying outbreak in Raccoon City. Pursued by a relentless Tyrant and equipped with limited resources, players must manage their inventory, solve puzzles, and unravel a complex yet captivating narrative. While completing both campaigns within the remaining PS Plus time might be challenging, finishing one is certainly achievable.
Dragon Ball FighterZ: Developed by Arc System Works, renowned for their contributions to the fighting game genre, especially in the anime category, Dragon Ball FighterZ excels due to its iconic license and user-friendly yet deep combat system. While the game's offline content may not justify a recommendation on its own, and diving into the competitive scene for a brief period might not be worthwhile, the three single-player arcs can be completed in a couple of weeks, though they may become repetitive.
