The Hollow Knight community has plunged back into speculation mode, sparked by William Pellen, one of the game's creators, and his intriguing social media activity on Twitter (X) before and during the Switch 2 reveal on January 16, 2025.

On January 15, Pellen tantalized fans with a tweet stating, "something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow." This message likely hinted at the leaked Switch 2 reveal on January 16, 2025. As fans buzzed about Silksong’s potential release, Pellen's subsequent actions fueled the fire of speculation.

On the day of the Switch 2 announcement, which confirmed an upcoming Nintendo Direct on April 2, 2025, keen-eyed fans noticed that Pellen had changed his profile picture to a slice of cake. A reverse image search revealed that the picture was from a Bon Appetit article about the Brooklyn Blackout Cake, published on April 2, 2024.

Pellen also left a comment on the cake recipe article, saying "mmmm tasty," which led dedicated fans to review the cake and weave in comments about Silksong. One fan boldly stated, "if we get real silksong news by April 2nd 2025, I will bake this cake." Another fan remarked, "Loved the silky texture. This goes directly in my favourite recipes," cleverly linking the game and the upcoming Nintendo Direct.

While it's impossible to confirm whether Pellen was the one who commented on the cake recipe, his profile picture change is undeniable, suggesting he might be hinting at something—although it could be nothing at all.

Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Official Announcement Five Years Ago

Silksong Speculations Rage (Again) Because of a Cake

Hollow Knight: Silksong was officially announced on February 14, 2019, with plans for release across multiple platforms, including Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. This highly anticipated sequel follows Hornet's adventures in a new kingdom ruled by silk and song.

In December 2019, Team Cherry offered a glimpse into Hollow Knight’s enchanting soundtrack, composed by Christopher Larkin. Following this update, the development team remained silent for over two years.

The silence was broken in February 2022, when Pellen reassured fans that the game was still in development and promised that more information would be shared as Silksong neared its release date. By June of that year, Team Cherry unveiled a new trailer during the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase, featuring fresh gameplay footage and confirming the game's availability on Game Pass upon launch.

Initially expected in 2023, Silksong faced a delay. In May 2023, Matthew Griffin from Team Cherry explained, "We had planned to release in the 1st half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can."

After more than five years, the Hollow Knight fanbase remains robust, actively participating in community forums and eagerly seeking any news about Silksong. Despite the delay announcement, the only updates fans have received are assurances that the developers continue to work diligently on the game.
