"Silksong Fans Await News at Nintendo Direct"

Author:Kristen Update:May 05,2025

While some gaming communities, like the Tomodachi Life fans, are reveling in the excitement from today's Nintendo Direct, others are left feeling disappointed. Specifically, the Hollow Knight: Silksong community is once again donning their metaphorical clown makeup after no new trailer for the eagerly awaited sequel appeared during the showcase.

Fortunately, there's another Nintendo Direct scheduled for next week on April 2nd, as mentioned by users like SHINYAXOLOTL and daftrix on the Silksong subreddit.

The Silksong community has been a whirlwind of anticipation and disappointment for quite some time now. A quick visit to their subreddit or Discord server reveals a constant stream of memes and "silkposts" filled with fantasies, predictions, and humor about a game that seems perpetually on the horizon. We've previously covered their reactions to back-to-back Directs last year, and again in January when a chocolate cake photo sparked an intense but fruitless search for an alternate reality game (ARG). From an outsider's perspective, it's challenging to gauge the balance between genuine disappointment and the community's ongoing, humorous coping mechanism whenever a new showcase is announced.

However, there's a heightened sense of anticipation for the upcoming showcase. Hollow Knight initially gained fame on PC but truly skyrocketed in popularity upon its release on the Nintendo Switch. This association with Nintendo's console has led many to connect the game more closely with the Switch than with other platforms. The upcoming Nintendo Direct is not only set to unveil the Nintendo Switch 2, including its hardware and potential launch titles, but it also represents a prime opportunity for Silksong to make a grand reappearance. While the showcase will undoubtedly feature first-party titles, Silksong fans are holding onto hope that the game's popularity and anticipation might secure it a spot in such a significant event, signaling that it's finally ready for release.

Despite the community's high hopes, the likelihood of another disappointment looms large. This will be roughly the 50th time fans have been let down since the game's announcement. Yet, there are some signs that might suggest a release date announcement is on the horizon. A recent Xbox Wire post on indies briefly mentioned Silksong, though it might have been in jest. More notably, recent backend updates to the game's Steam listing, including a copyright year update, have been observed. However, given the community's history of getting overhyped by Silksong's fluctuating status on various console storefronts, it's hard to predict anything with certainty.

The only concrete information we have comes from Team Cherry's marketing and publishing chief, Matthew 'Leth' Griffin, who, after the cake incident in January, reassured fans that "Yes, the game is real, progressing, and will release."

As we await the April 2nd Nintendo Direct, all we can do is speculate and dream about what life will be like in a post-Silksong world. So, get your clown makeup ready, folks!
