Exciting news for fans of both *Stranger Things* and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU): Sadie Sink, renowned for her portrayal of Max Mayfield in the hit Netflix series, is set to join the cast of *Spider-Man 4*. According to Deadline, Sink will star alongside Tom Holland in the upcoming MCU film, which is slated to start production later this year and is scheduled for release on July 31, 2026. Both Marvel and Sony have remained tight-lipped, offering no comments when approached by Deadline.

Speculation is rife about the character Sink will portray, with Deadline suggesting she might take on the role of the iconic X-Men character Jean Grey or another beloved redheaded figure from the Spider-Man universe, such as Mary Jane Watson. This casting choice raises intriguing questions about how her character will integrate into Peter Parker's ongoing narrative, especially considering his established relationship with Michelle "MJ" Jones-Watson, played by Zendaya in previous films. Given the significant changes introduced in *Spider-Man: No Way Home*, where Peter's identity is erased from everyone's memory, Sink's role could signify a pivotal shift in the storyline.

Tom Holland is currently engaged in filming Christopher Nolan's *The Odyssey*, and plans are in place for him to transition to *Spider-Man 4* once that project concludes, as reported by Deadline.

The MCU's expansion into the X-Men universe was hinted at last year by Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige during the Disney APAC Content Showcase in Singapore. Feige teased that fans would soon see familiar X-Men characters integrated into upcoming MCU films. He emphasized the significance of the X-Men in the MCU's future, particularly post-*Secret Wars*, which is set to usher in a "new age of mutants and of the X-Men."

Feige's comments suggest that mutants may appear in films like *Captain America: Brave New World*, *Thunderbolts*, and *The Fantastic Four: First Steps*, set for July 2025. However, the most likely scenario involves increased mutant presence in Phase 6 movies, including *Avengers: Doomsday*, *Spider-Man 4*, and *Avengers: Secret Wars* in 2027. The success of *Deadpool and Wolverine* this summer has fans wondering if these characters might return to the MCU, and whether Channing Tatum could reprise his role as Gambit.

Feige has made it clear that the X-Men will play a crucial role in the MCU's future after *Secret Wars*. He likened the journey to *Secret Wars* to the buildup to *Avengers: Endgame*, noting that the narrative path and subsequent developments are already well-defined. This suggests that Phase 7 of the MCU will be heavily focused on the X-Men. In the short term, Storm made her MCU debut in *What If...? Season 3*.

Looking ahead, Marvel Studios has added three untitled movie projects to its 2028 release schedule: February 18, 2028; May 5, 2028; and November 10, 2028. It seems increasingly likely that one of these slots will be filled by an X-Men movie.
